miller-rowe consort
consists of Michael Miller on classical guitar &
David Rowe on hammer
dulcimer. Home is Upstate SC. Formed in September, 1991,
they have
been featured at festivals, special events & colleges in both
Carolinas
& Virginia.
Michael
is a graduate of the University
of Georgia
(bachelor
& master degrees in music), & has studied under Christopher
Parkening,
John Sutherland, & Christopher Berg. In addition to
performances
throughout the Southeast, he has been featured on the SC Public Radio
program,
"The Attentive Ear." For over a decade he taught in the
Music Dept. at Presbyterian
College, & has
also
taught at Converse & USC-Upstate. In 2005 he shifted his
attention to younger students, & launched the “Child
Bloom” program in Spartanburg.
David's
early experience was in folk & rock bands as bassist &
guitarist. He is
a graduate of Winthrop
University
(bachelor of
music ed) & Erskine Theological Seminary. The sound & history
of the hammer dulcimer attracted his attention while at Seminary,
& he
made it his principal instrument in 1990. Besides performances at
many
local churches & retreats, he has also taught at Presbyterian &
Converse Colleges, as well as privately. In 2005 he was awarded a
Doctor
of Divinity degree for his work in ministry & music.
David has
served as pastor of the A.R. Presbyterian Church in Blacksburg, SC
since 1989.
Their
programs include classical, celtic, old time, & hymn arrangements,
as well as original compositions. They perform for concerts,
weddings (service & reception),
business receptions & parties, informances, & special Church
events. Appearances
